Happy Summer Everyone!
I sure hope that summer is treating you and your loved ones as good as it is treating us.
We've been enjoying amazing weather (though a few too many forest fires) - and I have been so lucky to be home with our kids all summer. We've been camping, hiking, biking, golfing, beaching, road-tripping, wine tasting...it's been wonderful. And - we still have just under 5 more weeks until school starts. Super-duper awesomeness!
So, how do you fuel up in the summer? When we are outdoors, in addition to the mandatory water, we are always carrying extra snacks for our family. Our go-to snacks are granola bars - especially ones with protein. We love the convenience on the bars. We've also got our favourite post-activity snacks - such as yogurt with fruit and granola - our kids just eat that up (I'm also a big yogurt and granola fan for breakfast).
Speaking of granola, did you know that Kellogg's has recently launched new Vector Granola Honey Almond Flavour? They have, and it's good. With 20g of protein per serving, 5g of fibre and 10 vitamins and minerals. We were fortunate to have been given a sample to try - and while my almond-allergic hubby couldn't have any, the kids and I really enjoyed it with our yogurt and fresh strawberries from our garden!
Now for the best part...YOU have the chance to WIN a Kellogg's Vector Prize pack ($50 value!) - just like the one in the picture in this post. Lucky you! Enter below via the Rafflecopter. Thanks so much...and watch for new recipe posts coming to Addicted to Recipes soon! Despite our busy summer, we still need to eat, and I have been testing new recipes that will get posted soon!

Tis the season of indulging. Between all the festivities for Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas and New Year's, it is hard to keep that willpower going. This is the time of year when we are surrounded by all sorts of goodies that fill us up.
Recently we received a Special K Willpower Kit from Kellogg's which included products to try as well as some interesting and useful information about protein. I know that I don't eat enough protein in the morning to truly satisfy my hunger and provide me with that boost that we all need from protein. I am sure that is why I am usually starving by lunch!
Lucky for the "me's" out there, Kellogg's has introduced NEW Special K Protein Cereal with 10 grams of protein and 9 grams of fibre to help satisfy that need for protein. I love mixing cereal and yogurt, and adding in the Special K cereal to my morning yogurt snack is an easy no-brainer for me.
Guess what? The nice folks at Kellogg's are giving my lucky readers a chance to WIN a Special K Willpower Kit, valued at $35!! Enter via the Rafflecopter below.
NOTE: One winner, open to Canada only. Winner will be drawn at random via Rafflecopter. Winner will be notified by email and will have 48 hours to respond. Failure to respond within 48 hours will result in a new winner being drawn. Prize supplied by Kellogg's.

Resolve to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle with Special K
The season of indulgence is behind us now. Now we are back to reality, the grind, and our annual "fresh start". How many resolutions did you make this year? I made a few, you can check them out here.
One thing that I am hoping to do this year is get back into running. I was never a superstar runner, but I always enjoyed running. It was great "me" time, something every Mother could use more of :-)
How are you doing with your resolutions? Me? I'm doing alright! I've started back to the gym a few times a week. I'm a fair-weather runner, so running in the winter is not my thing. But I am perfectly happy on a cardio machine, building my endurance up for running outside. Hopefully I will get there, but in the meantime, I am happy to be more active!
There are tonnes of resources out there to help you with your resolutions - whether they be to lose weight, eat better, or like me, get more active. One that I've been checking out is My Special K. It's an online resource that anyone to use to help track our goals and feel good about ourselves. You can start your own My Special K Plan at www.myspecialk.ca - head on over to check it out and make your own plan too!
Thank you Kellogg's for providing me with some new exercise gear and fuel to help me with my goals!

Kellogg's Rice Krispies Make Christmas Fun!
Recently I received a gift box from Kellogg's containing great ingredients to make Christmas themed Rice Krispie treats. My oldest son and I were pretty excited as we love to create in the kitchen. The box included regular and Vanilla Rice Krispies, marshmallows, Wilton decorating supplies, and wrapping bits so that we could make gifts out of our treats!
We spent part of our Sunday creating these treats - making our Rice Krispie squares as per the standard recipe, and then quite a bit of time decorating and creating our masterpieces! Here is a sampling of our art:
Thanks Kellogg's for the providing me the means to add a little extra quality time with my son!

New From Kellogg's!
I love being a Kellogger! This week we got the opportunity to try some of the new products that Kellogg's has just released - maybe you have seen them at your local retailer? I was able to pick up the new Special K Flatbread Morning Sandwiches (Egg with Vegetables and Pepper Jack Cheese) and the Special K Morning Shakes (Vanilla). I am super excited for us to try the new Eggo Mini Waffles, but my retailer was all sold out (at 7:30 this morning!). Those must be a hot commodity :-)
My morning was another morning on the go - we've had a house full of sickies this past week, which has resulted in a bunch of sleepless nights and early mornings. This morning was no exception (which is why I was grocery shopping so early...we were all up, so might as well get it done!). I didn't have a big window of time between grocery shopping and when we needed to be at the rink for our oldest's hockey game and Christmas party - and when I got home, the baby was napping...so I had a few minutes of "me" time to grab a bite to eat before we met my hubby and our oldest at the game. Perfect time for the Special K Flatbread Morning Sandwich. It took me all of 1 minute and 15 seconds to prepare my breakfast...and I was able to enjoy it in peace :-) It was a tasty treat! Perfect for an on-the-go morning like today. I can see these being consumed on hockey mornings when departure time for the rink is 5:30 am...a quick (quiet) way to have breakie before the game.
Would you grab a flatbread sandwich on your on-the-go mornings? Which flavour would you choose? Egg, Ham & Pepper Jack Cheese, Egg & Sausage, or the flavour I tried, Egg with Vegetable & Pepper Jack Cheese?

Rice Krispies Halloween Treats!
The other day a parcel arrived at our house from our friends at Kellogg's...our oldest son was so intrigued about what was inside this magical white box, needless to say, we had a lot of fun playing games with him. It was almost like Christmas...except that it's Halloween! But there we were, shaking the box, slowly opening the box, slowly showing him the bits inside the box...and what bits they were!
All of the ingredients (except butter and vanilla...but that's a little harder to ship!) to make HALLOWEEN RICE KRISPIES TREATS! Oh yes we did...and what a GREAT time we had doing it! We went online to look at some ideas of what to do with our Halloween theme, which made for a fun way to shake up our routine treat making. Because we opened the box on a weeknight, we decided to wait until the weekend to make our treats.
Once Saturday came, there was no containing the excitement. When it came time to "bake", our son was so practically vibrating about all the candy samples that came with the Rice Krispies and marshmallows. He laid them all out and organized them just "perfectly" (yes friends and family, you can laugh now...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!). We worked together to make the Rice Krispies treats...the "old fashioned way" (following the recipe on the Rice Krispies box) - on the stove top - melting the butter, melting the marshmallows (it's great practice for him to count the marshmallows as they enter to pot), adding in the vanilla, adding in the Rice Krispies, mixing, mixing, mixing!
Then came time to play! I would ask my son what he wanted for shapes...to use the awesome pumpkin or bat cookie cutters that came in the pack, or roll balls for eyes, faces, etc...and of course, every little boy needs a Rice Krispie snake to decorate!
We had so much fun the two of us making and decorating our Halloween Rice Krispie Treats. It was such great bonding time for us...and my son talked about his creations non-stop until bedtime...and is still talking about them a few days later. What a wonderful memory!
VERDICT
Of course, these were TASTY! I've never added candy to my Rice Krispies sqaures before, and it was a fun little addition for us. Rice Krispies treats were part of my childhood, and it's great that they are part of my childrens' childhoods too. Even the baby was smacking his lips eating little bits of the treats (none of the candy for him though!).
Thank you Kellogg's for providing the gift that made an afternoon of memories for me and my son!
Just some of the great stuff inside the Halloween Box!
