Happy Summer Everyone!  

I sure hope that summer is treating you and your loved ones as good as it is treating us.  

We've been enjoying amazing weather (though a few too many forest fires) - and I have been so lucky to be home with our kids all summer. We've been camping, hiking, biking, golfing, beaching, road-tripping, wine tasting...it's been wonderful. And - we still have just under 5 more weeks until school starts.  Super-duper awesomeness!

So, how do you fuel up in the summer?  When we are outdoors, in addition to the mandatory water, we are always carrying extra snacks for our family.  Our go-to snacks are granola bars - especially ones with protein.  We love the convenience on the bars.  We've also got our favourite post-activity snacks - such as yogurt with fruit and granola - our kids just eat that up (I'm also a big yogurt and granola fan for breakfast).

Speaking of granola, did you know that Kellogg's has recently launched new Vector Granola Honey Almond Flavour?  They have, and it's good.  With 20g of protein per serving, 5g of fibre and 10 vitamins and minerals.  We were fortunate to have been given a sample to try - and while my almond-allergic hubby couldn't have any, the kids and I really enjoyed it with our yogurt and fresh strawberries from our garden!

The days that we come home to the big red box sitting on our doorstep are always fun days.  Just before we left on holidays, we received a box from Kellogg's containing samples of their new products:

Finish BOGO Ultimate Kitchen Makeover #FinishYourKitchen

Anyone who knows me, knows that I spend a LOT of time in my kitchen.  After all, I am a recipe blogger, and I test every recipe before I share it with my readers.  Sundays especially are "heavy" kitchen days for me as I try to prepare meals, snacks, etc in advance of the upcoming school and work week. My family spends a lot of time in the kitchen too - whether it is eating meals together or doing homework or playing games at the table, I would say the kitchen is the most used room in our house. 

Lucky for me, I have a kitchen that I am happy with.  It is a decent size with good counter space - always a plus for us (messy) cooks!  The eating area has a huge 8-seater table and the area has 4 large windows and a (windowed) door to outside to the back patio and back yard - which means that I have a bright kitchen and I can see my kids as I work in the kitchen and as they play in the yard.  It was a big selling feature for us when we bought our home, and we have been happy with it.

Of course there are things that I would like to change about my kitchen - I would like a more open concept style into our living/play room, as sometimes I feel closed off from everyone if I am in the kitchen and they are all in the living/play room.  That might be a reno for us once kids toys are gone (otherwise those toys would be all over the kitchen).  We like to entertain, but I don't feel like our current kitchen is a true "entertainer's kitchen".  And I would really like a new stove.  I would love one with a double oven and convection.  I had a convection oven in our last house that I miss.  I feel that our cabinets are a little outdated, but they are in such good shape that I could never justify tearing them out "just because".  I'd also love a built in cleaner...to clean up after all my cooking and baking messes!  LOL

Feed the Fun! Bear Paws Morning Snacks & Giveaway!

Bear Paws...our oldest son is in love with them.  Bear Paws are the special snack that Grandma (my Mom) keeps at her house and in her RV for the grandkids when they are over.  When I was given the opportunity to try the new line of Bear Paw Morning Snacks, I was excited, especially knowing how happy our oldest would be!  We received the two new flavours:

Cereal & Blueberry Yogourt

Cereal & Vanilla Yogourt

Both sounded very appealing.  Not only do we have Bear Paws fans in the house, we also have yogurt mongers in the house.  So really, pairing the two seems like a no-brainer to us!

When our samples arrived, I hid them away so that oldest wouldn't see them.  Along with our Bear Paws Morning Snack samples were some fun things for the kids to play with...over the Easter weekend we made good use of these items.  Our oldest son loves to search for bugs in the back yard, and he found his new magnifying glass to be super handy.  And since we were blessed with amazing weather this past Easter weekend, he was out there searching away!  Our youngest loves stickers, and we can sit and stick stickers with him forever (or what probably feels like forever for a toddler!).  We had lots of fun sticking his new stickers everywhere.  When it was time for a break, aka "coffee break" I brought out the Bear Paws...you should have seen our oldest's eyes.  Lit up like you wouldn't believe.  He had a hard time picking which one to try first...but chose Cereal & Blueberry Yogourt.  He was super excited that I was writing a blog post about them and that I wanted to know his opinion.  His verdict...two thumbs way up!  He's so stinkin' cute.  The toddler must have loved his too, his was gone before big brother's!

In addition to being a snack that our kids enjoy, another thing we are pleased about with Bear Paws Morning Snacks is that they are peanut free - such an important consideration today.  I like knowing that I can send these as a snack at school or daycare or include them in treat bags and not be worried about causing a reaction in one of the other children.

Oliver's Labels Room-eez Growth Chart - Review & Giveaway!

Anyone who knows me well knows that in addition to my baking and cooking habits, I also love interior decorating and interior design.  I have done some consulting on decorating in the past. I love decorating my house and looking at magazines with inspirational ideas.  If I watch TV, it's usually on HGTV (or a cooking show..or sometimes Y&R!).  And Pinterest...oh me, oh my!  A girl can spend hours there finding great ideas! It's funny, any house I've had up to this point (aka, before kids) has always seen a lot of effort in painting, decorating, accessorizing, personalizing, etc.  When we bought our current house, the walls were "builder's beige".  Some of the walls still are builder's beige (not really my favourite colour...no offense anyone!)...but slowly I am transforming our house away from the cookie cutter and into more "me".  If you've been reading my blog for a while, you may recall the Bedroom Makeover that we did for our oldest son's birthday earlier this year, where we transformed his room into a space that we all just love.

Because I am always interested in new decorating "stuff", when the opportunity came up for me to review the new line of Room-eez Growth Charts from Oliver's Labels, I jumped at the chance!  I checked out their website and fell in love with all the cute designs.  And...if you were to see what we have been using for a growth chart you would have a serious laugh!  Our oldest son's growth chart is right on the wall in his bedroom.  Started pre-makeover.  Which means that I haven't painted over it (so in all that beautiful new paint in his room, there in a green patch where his height has been marked since we moved into the house, LOL!).

 So, once I checked out the Oliver's Labels website, I selected the Monkey Themed growth chart...for three very obvious reasons...one reason is my oldest son (Monkey #1), the second reason is my yougest son (Monkey #2), and the third reason is that their playroom is decorated with a monkey theme already, the monkey themed growth chart was the perfect fit! 

When our Room-eez Growth Chart arrived, it was in a nice neat package with great instructions.  I was a little nervous about doing the install, so I called upon my wonderful, handy hubby, who took over.  It was silly for me to be nervous, it was SUPER EASY to install!  As soon as the first mark was on the wall to line up the growth chart, our 5 year old took over smoothing the material onto the wall.  Super easy!  I did take a quick "turn" so that I could get a feel for the process - the material is a nice, sturdy feeling material, with good "stick".  Reading up on the decals, it says that they are also easy to remove and won't hurt my walls (woohoo! - the playroom is one room that we have "renovated" and is not builder's beige!).
